The clock is ticking towards that day in May and I am desperate to get out to do some serious walking but, as those of in the UK will be aware, it has done nothing but rain for what seems like weeks! Each day I think to myself ‘tomorrow…’ and the rain comes down again. I don’t mind walking in the cold, all you need is more layers but the rain just seems to get in eveywhere and in a matter of moments you are drenched.

I live in a small town on the River Avon and we were badly affected by the floods last summer so everyone is very nervous at the moment, few of the people who live alongside the river are back in their homes after the last floods - work is still ongoing and they are sandbagging and putting flood defences in place again. The fact that I can’t get out to do my training is a small inconvenience in comparison to their problems. At least this time we are a little better prepared but it is a very scary time for everyone.

So it’s back on the exercise bike for me at the moment - boring, and not really as effective as pounding the streets but at least I get to catch up on some reading whilst I pedal, though I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that audiobooks would be better as I slip and slide on the saddle whilst trying to turn the pages - if you hear a resounding crash, it’s me falling off!
